Video to Audio Extractor

Extracts the audio track from any video file and saves it as a high-quality MP3 file. The video stream is completely discarded, leaving only the audio content. Perfect for extracting music, podcasts, lectures, or any audio content from video recordings.

What is it used for?

  • Extracting music or soundtracks from music videos
  • Converting video lectures and tutorials to audio for on-the-go listening
  • Creating podcast episodes from video recordings
  • Saving audio from conference talks and presentations
  • Extracting voiceovers and narration from video content

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Upload a video file (MP4, WebM, AVI, MOV, MKV - any format)
  2. Adjust audio bitrate in the settings panel (64-320 kbps)
  3. Click 'Convert to .MP3' to extract the audio
  4. Preview the extracted audio in the built-in player
  5. Download your MP3 file

How it works

Upload any video file. FFmpeg strips the video track entirely (-vn flag) and encodes audio as high-quality MP3 using LAME encoder at VBR quality 2 (~190kbps). The result is a much smaller audio-only file.

Tips & Best Practices

  • The extracted audio quality is limited by the original video's audio track
  • 320kbps is the maximum MP3 bitrate - use it for music extraction
  • For speech content (lectures, podcasts), 128kbps is perfectly adequate

Frequently Asked Questions

What audio quality can I expect?

The default VBR quality 2 produces ~190kbps MP3, which is excellent for most uses. You can increase to 256 or 320kbps for higher quality, though the difference is often imperceptible.

How much smaller is the audio file?

Dramatically smaller - a 100MB video might produce a 5-10MB MP3 file. Audio-only files are typically 10-20x smaller than the original video.

Can I extract audio as WAV or FLAC?

This tool extracts as MP3. For WAV output, first extract as MP3, then use our MP3 to WAV converter.

Privacy & Security

This tool uses FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly (WASM). The WASM binary (~25MB) is downloaded from a CDN on first use and cached by your browser. All file processing happens locally on your device - your files are never uploaded to any server. This makes it safe for sensitive, private, or confidential media files. Large files may take longer to process depending on your device's CPU and available memory.
